Ronald MacDonald
This is a true story:
Today, I ate at MacDonalds on my lunch break. As I sat there, chomping on nuggets and fries, and sipping a diet coke, reading my word, I was interrupted by a young lady talking loudly on her cel phone directly behind me:
"Yeah! He's gonna be here! I was thinking maybe [billy] and [jacob] might want to come. It's going to be so exciting! Maybe we can call our girlfriends _____ and ______. Yeah! I'm looking at the posted right now- Ronald MacDonald is going to be here Friday at 1:30pm."
That may not sound shocking to you, but it shocked me. Friends, somebody better slap me hard if I ever get excited about bringing my child to meet Ronald MacDonald! Out of all the things that this young lady could possibly get excited about, why was it Ronald!?
I'm still pondering the reason God had me hear that. What do I get excited about? Do some of the things I cherish seem like Ronald MacDonald to God, in that they are so little compared to His greatness?

Very interesting... the excitement could be from finding something special for the kids to do. But it really makes me think about the excitement we should have about thinking of our Savior's second coming.

Ronald McDonald, Michael Jordan, Dave Matthews Band, Nintendo Wii, the new Harry Potter book ... In my opinion it's all empty calories and a chasing after the wind in God's eyes. So often we feed ourselves with stuff that is less filling.

I still find myself getting excited over the more "worldly" things in life. For example, the new computer part that just came out or the new Transformers movie that just came out. Is it wrong to be excited about something like that? I realize that God has given us all we need and will ever need, but what is wrong in getting excited over things that we enjoy?

It's ok to get excited about Transformers (even if it was directed by Michael Bay), just don't worship them ... actually, you should be more excited about whom you're going to watch Transformers with ... who could that be??? K_____ hehe

Okay, call me wierd, but it all depends on who Ronald McDonald is. If Ronald McDonald represented Christ and that woman represented the body, then she's done a good thing. If we got as excited about Christ as this woman did about Ronald, by golly we'd make a difference. If we called each other up with the same excitement about what Bible truth we'd learned or about great works God had done, WOW!
I think though that the story would look different. There wouldn't be any, "Yes he'll be coming here at 1:30" it'd be more like, GET DOWN HERE NOW!!!! He is Here! Don't Miss him, I don't know how much longer you have to see Him!! Get over here NOW! Our summons to the lost would look a LOT different.

Maybe we should think of this as an insight in to how God looks at some the things we get excited about. I can't help but wonder: Are we getting excited about things that really matter, or are they just meaningless?
At least the girl has some excitement though. Redirect that excitement and she'd be on fire.
